The Chevrolet SS finds its most direct competition at a cross-town rival.
The Dodge Charger SRT--either as the 470-horsepower SRT 392 or the crazy 707-hp SRT Hellcat--easily bests the SS in terms of brute force, but it doesn't match the finesse and feel of the SS.
The Chevy is simply lighter and more driver-connected, while the Charger is more of a muscle car with four doors.
At Chevy's other cross-town rival, the Ford Taurus SHO thrills drivers using a different recipe: a turbocharged V-6 sending power to all four wheels.
It's big and comfortable, and drives better than one might expect, but doesn't have the Chevy's V-8 chops.
The V-8-equipped Infiniti Q70 is another performance competitor; it's a bit more of a luxury car, with beautiful, plush cabin appointments, but has sport-sedan moves.
Still, mind us for finding it difficult to believe Chevy could field a sedan just two-grand shy of a Jaguar XF--albeit a base four-cylinder model.
