2018 Chevrolet Impala vs. Its Competition

Large sedans have lost the land-yacht tuning of a decade ago.

Cars like the latest Chevy Impala out-style their mid-size, family-sedan siblings.

The Impala shares some of its underpinnings with the Buick LaCrosse, but the LaCrosse offers more options, a nicer cabin, and less interior space.

The Toyota Avalon feels more upscale than the Impala in many ways, but lacks the planted drive feel.

The Ford Taurus feels smaller inside and its controls are dated.

There's also the Hyundai Azera, which is stylish, drives well, offers tons of leg room, and ample technology.

Finally, the new Nissan Maxima is on par with the Impala for agility; its styling is even more daring, but we'd take GM's conventional six-speed over Nissan's CVT any day.
