2016 Chevrolet Impala vs. Its Competition

2016 Chevrolet Impala

Today, big sedans are less like land barges and more closely related to their mid-size, more popular family-sedan siblings.

The Impala shares most of its underpinnings with the Buick LaCrosse, but the LaCrosse offers more options, a nicer cabin, and less interior space.

The Ford Taurus feels smaller inside comes with the challenge of dealing with MyFord Touch.

There's also the Hyundai Azera, which is stylish, drives well, offers tons of leg room, and ample technology.

The Toyota Avalon feels more upscale than the Impala in many ways, but lacks the planted drive feel.

Finally, the new Nissan Maxima is on par with the Impala for agility; its styling is even more daring, but we'd take GM's conventional six-speed over Nissan's CVT any day.

Quick Specs
8.0
The 2016 Chevrolet Impala scores big wins in styling, handling, connectivity, and safety.
7.8
In any trim, the Buick LaCrosse is comfortable and well-appointed, but serious buyers should consider Premium versions.
7.4
The 2016 Ford Taurus is the biggest sedan in its lineup, but it's short on rear-seat room, and it's beginning to feel its age.
8.0
For those who don't want or need the Genesis' price tag, the 2016 Hyundai Azera satisfies the near-luxury need for style and features.
8.6
The 2016 Nissan Maxima locks in an arresting shape and charming front-drive road manners, in its quest to distance itself from the Altima.
8.2
The 2016 Toyota Avalon gets some minor fillips as it vies again for our top rating among large sedans.
