2019 Chevrolet Camaro vs. Its Competition

The Chevy Camaro’s varied model range offers coupes and convertibles; turbo-4, V-6, and V-8 engines; and high-performance 1LE and ZL1 track attackers.

The Ford Mustang is the closest rival.

It offers a similar lineup with 4- and 8-cylinder engines, coupes and convertibles, and its own track variants.

We prefer the Camaro’s handling, but the Mustang is winning the sales war.

The Dodge Challenger has also surpassed the Camaro for sales, and it appeals for its big power (797-hp in the Hellcat Redeye) and muscle car flavor, but it isn’t nearly as sporty as the Camaro.

The Nissan 370Z soldiers on with an old design (like the Challenger), but it’s still fun to drive with a responsive V-6 and a Japanese flair compared to the decidedly American Camaro.

The BMW 4-Series offers a more premium experience inside, as well as more room, but really doesn’t handle any better.

Quick Specs
5.8
It may look like a muscle car, but the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro is a sports car that can outperform rivals that cost much more.
6.6
The 2019 BMW 4-Series distills our favorite parts from the related 3-Series and packages them in a better shape.
5.8
The 2019 Dodge Challenger delivers macho retro looks in anything from a relaxed boulevard cruiser to a dragstrip specialist to a monster horsepower muscle machine.
6.0
The 2019 Ford Mustang finally gets it: Muscle-car power doesn’t have to come with muscle-car handling compromises.
5.6
The base 370Z is just about as barebones as it gets, with electronics and interior that were barely up to date in 2009, when the car was first released. Sport models add the right performance bits and don’t complicate the price tag too much.
