The 2011 Buick LaCrosse lands somewhere between the mainstream and serious luxury brands—in the nowhere land occupied by vehicles like the Nissan Maxima and Saab 9-5.

The Maxima has more of a performance emphasis, and it's slightly smaller inside than the LaCrosse, but it appeals to some of the same crowd that wants a stylish large sedan that's sportier if not high-performance.

The Saab 9-5 has been redesigned this past year and is especially stylish and sleek; its interior appointments also look top-tier.

The Acura TL and Lexus ES are true luxury sedans, though they're both front-wheel drive and have more of an emphasis on comfort—though the TL is available with all-wheel drive and a six-speed manual and as such is more of a driver's car.

And for those who want more of a traditional large luxury sedan, the Hyundai Genesis might appeal; it has rear-wheel drive and a choice of V-6 or V-8 engines and is an especially strong value.

The Infiniti M sits a bit further up-market than the LaCrosse, but offers a level of equipment that's quite comparable in the V-6 models.

Quick Specs
The 2011 Buick LaCrosse hits new levels of style, sophistication, and driving engagement without alienating the brand's comfort-oriented customer base.
If the bold exterior is to your liking, the 2011 Acura TL is a solid luxury value—and the SH-AWD has true sport-sedan chops.
If you can do without a luxury logo, the 2011 Hyundai Genesis provides performance, features, and comfort—including impressive detailing—to match premium-brand sedans costing much more.
The 2011 Infiniti M pairs beauty with a beastly V-8 engine—and at last, Infiniti makes its marque in a class full of winners.
For those who value comfort and luxury—and still want the latest technology—but don't need a sport sedan, the 2011 Lexus ES 350 is one of the best bets.
