2017 Buick Encore vs. Its Competition

2017 Buick Encore

There aren't many direct competitors for the Buick Encore.

The MINI Countryman is similar in size and function to the Encore, but it's undeniably more quirky, and skews toward the sportier end of the spectrum.

The Mazda CX-3 is also sportier, though it's tight on interior space.

The FIAT 500X offers a good balance of space and dynamics.

Honda's new HR-V isn't exciting, but it offers excellent interior space for its small size.

We'd throw in the more expensive Audi Q3, a sleeker, better-handling option with superior acceleration--or possibly the upcoming BMW X1, a new model based on the front-wheel-drive MINI Countryman.

Quick Specs
6.5
The 2017 Buick Encore reaches for the compact-luxury stars, but it falls shy on styling and front-seat space.
6.5
The 2017 Audi Q3 isn't the most space-efficient or fuel-efficient in its class, but it gives compact luxury shoppers the ride comfort, easy maneuverability, and flexible cabin they seek.
7.2
The 2017 Mazda CX-3 keeps the most attractive features from last year: its price and its handling.
7.8
The 2016 Honda HR-V smartly trades a little of the Fit's fuel economy for exuberant styling, more headroom, and optional all-wheel drive.
7.8
The 2016 Mini Counryman retains a fair amount of the Mini character and fun-to-drive spirit, but a growing crop of small crossovers give it more competition than ever.
7.6
The smartly styled 2016 Fiat 500X is no off-roader, but it might be the most useful vehicle from the brand yet.
