2014 BMW X5 vs. Its Competition

In its previous-generation form, the X5 couldn't quite match the impressive handling of the Porsche Cayenne, but the Cayenne only seats five passengers, its interior isn't up to the richness we see in the 2014 BMW X5.

As for the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, it's a strong rival to the X5's seating layout and off-road capability, but it's a little more rugged and traditional-looking.

The Lexus GX 460 has a body-on-frame, true-truck layout, although some might not love its gaudy look.

The Cadillac Escalade is the leader for boldness on the truck side; there's an all-new version on the way for 2015, but in the meantime it's offered with plenty of traditional luxuries.

The Land Rover Range Rover is all-new for 2013, and with dramatic weight savings, rugged off-road ability, and unparalleled elegance, it's the leader for those who want more of a rugged, traditional top-luxury SUV.
