2013 BMW 6-Series vs. Its Competition

Both the Mercedes-Benz CL Class and SL Class models are quite close in size, space, and purpose to the 6-Series models, even though they're significantly more expensive than the BMWs.

While the new Mercedes cars—particularly the new SL, and the high-performance SL63 AMG that competes with the M6—offer more visual flair and drama, the BMW models feel as inspiring, capable, and well-equipped.

Those in search of more of a driver's car—without giving up too many of the creature comforts—should consider the Porsche 911.

Either in its Carrera (coupe) or Cabriolet (convertible) forms, the new 911 is surprisingly practical and competitive with the 6-Series in terms of price.

However you will end up sacrificing some comfort—as well as some of the 6-Series' advanced tech options.

Otherwise both the Jaguar XK and the Maserati GranTurismo offer comparable performance to the BMW, along with plush interiors and a perhaps slightly more exotic look and feel.

Those who like the new Gran Coupe will also want to take a look at the related Maserati Quattroporte, along with the Mercedes-Benz CLS and Audi A7.

Quick Specs
With the addition of a new four-door Gran Coupe and M6 Coupe, the 6-Series lineup covers the full range of personal luxury, from soft and elegant to sharp and athletic.
Raising pulses and generating sheer envy: it's all in a day's work for the gorgeous, sublime Jaguar XK.
Bristling with performance and technology, the 2013 Mercedes-Benz CL Class still is cozy enough to coddle the super-wealthy.
The 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL Class toughens up its image and its handling, but still feels more content as a grand touring grand dame.
Still a tremendous value, the 2013 Porsche 911 range offers a great balance between dedicated sports car handling and daily practicality.
Earthy exhaust tones and serene handling carve out a distinctive niche for the fabulous Maserati GranTurismo.
