The Audi Q7 remains a mechanical cousin to the Volkswagen Touareg and Porsche Cayenne, but now it's moving to a new, lighter platform the automaker calls MLB.
Both the VW and Porsche focus a little more heavily on off-road ability, and the Porsche is more engaging for performance driving.
But that changes somewhat with the 700-pound weight loss of the Q7.
Neither of those other models offer the third row that you'll find in the Audi.
BMW's X5 is an excellent contender, with a handsome exterior and great driving dynamics.
The Lincoln MKT may be closer in flavor to the Q7, though it doesn't carry the same level of cachet.
The Mercedes GLS-Class is perhaps the most direct competitor, with equally efficient drivetrains, and an ample third row.
