2016 Aston Martin Rapide vs. Its Competition

2016 Aston Martin Rapide S
Kirk Bell Kirk Bell Senior Editor

The Rapide S has much in the way of potential competition and little in the way of direct rivals.

The Porsche Panamera is an incredibly good driver’s luxury sedan, with a large and comfortable back seat, but it lacks the Rapide’s gorgeous lines.

When ordered in AMG trim, Mercedes-Benz’s CLS Class is every bit as impressive to drive, but the styling is more aggressive and in-your-face than the Rapide’s elegance.

There’s always the Bentley Continental Flying Spur, of course, which delivers on the refinement and style fronts, but in a much heavier, bulkier package.

The Maserati Quattroporte packs plenty of style, but it’s of the Italian variety, rather than sleek British refinement.

Speaking of Italians, the Ferrari FF is far more expensive and even more confining in the rear seat, but it boasts incredible performance and equally drop-dead gorgeous looks.

Quick Specs
Even though it has four doors, the Aston Martin Rapide S is worthy of the wings and heritage thanks to its unparalleled good looks.
8.2
The 2016 Mercedes CLS-Class looks great—inside and out. But a new E-Class and more efficient powertrains may outrun the potent "four-door coupe" sooner rather than later.
8.2
The 2016 Porsche Panamera looks like a sports car and drives like one, yet it delivers executive-level ride comfort and cabin appointments.
8.0
The 2016 Maserati Quattroporte is a rare sight, but shouldn't be—it's gorgeous, with sharp, Ferrari-flavored performance.
All the practicality in the 2015 Ferrari FF is genuine, but most will buy it for what's unique—its shape, its drive system, and its badge.
