2017 Alfa Romeo 4C vs. Its Competition

2017 Alfa Romeo 4C
Aaron Cole Aaron Cole Managing Editor

The Alfa Romeo 4C has few competitors, and none of them are really direct.

The closest would be a Mazda Miata, which is also a roadster.

In terms of practicality, the MX-5 Miata is hugely more livable than the 4C but it's nowhere near as fun.

(It's also much less expensive than the 4C.) Typical two-seaters such as the Corvette and Jaguar F-Type come to mind, but those muscle cars don't have the same kind of connection to the road.

Perhaps the Porsche 718 is the most direct competitor, in price and in capability, and we'd be hard-pressed to talk someone out of buying a new 718.

The BMW i8 is an equally rare sight on the road as the 4C, and we suspect buyers of both are looking for their 5th or 6th cars.

Congratulations on your great success.

Quick Specs
The 2017 Alfa Romeo 4C is a dream car—light, nimble, quick, and fun—with zero practicality. In other words, it's a supercar.
7.6
The 2017 BMW i8 is a stunning coupe with gull-wing doors that hides a slew of advanced technology, though the design may render its energy-efficient plug-in hybrid powertrain all but irrelevant.
7.8
The 2017 Chevrolet Corvette antes up stunning performance and great features; we're mixed on its boy-racer looks.
8.4
The 2017 Jaguar F-Type clips the sports-car apex, with extreme performance meets extremely good looks.
6.8
The 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata offers back-to-basics sports car fun in the classic roadster or the new RF body styles.
8.2
The 2017 Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman remains some of our favorite performance cars; they're thrilling to drive, and in base form they're exceptional sports car value, too.
