2014 Acura TSX vs. Its Competition

While the Acura TSX doesn't land squarely into one class of luxury sedan, we think that's part of its charm.

If you're cross-shopping it against the BMW 3-Series or Audi A4, you'll find that German models have a heavier, more substantial feel and significantly more options available, but they're also considerably more expensive.

The 320i, the most affordable version of the 3-Series, earns similar fuel economy to the TSX with its 2.0-liter turbocharged engine.

Other alternatives include the Acura ILX, which is the brand's smallest car.

It lacks the TSX's fun-to-drive personality, but offers a considerably more efficient hybrid model.

On the other hand, there's the Subaru Legacy and Buick Regal.

The Legacy is a better all-weather car with its standard all-wheel-drive, but its interior doesn't quite land in the luxury category.

The Regal drives more like a German car, but it's similar in size and packaging to the TSX.

Quick Specs
With exception to those green-car enthusiasts out there, we think the 2014 Acura TSX strikes a solid compromise for shoppers interested in a practical, sporty, premium compact sedan.
The 2014 Acura ILX is a nice, balanced compact luxury sedan for those who put the emphasis on comfort and feature, not true sport-sedan reflexes.
With its perky, composed all-wheel-drive performance, the 2014 Audi Allroad isn't just the family pick of the A4 lineup; it's a better-driving alternative to taller crossovers.
The 2014 BMW 3-Series retains its sporting heritage, but has grown to become a high-tech, spacious, comfortable, and safe range of vehicles.
It's the best driver's car in the lineup, and the 2014 Buick Regal adds better infotainment and safety--with a slight cut to the GS' power.
The 2014 Subaru Legacy continues to represent a good value as a sporty, affordable, all-wheel-drive sedan that's fun to drive--as long as you're not looking for the latest gadgets and gimmicks.
