After a month with our Clarity EV, we are even more convinced that we made the right choice, having looked hard at the Bolt EV and seriously considered whether we would need the 250 mile range that the Chevy offers. It came down to value for us - the lease rate on the Bolt made it about twice as expensive as the Clarity, and since 95% of our daily driving can be accomplished with a 90 mile range, we opted for the Honda. The interior of the Clarity is beautifully crafted...the features and amenities are pretty incredible for the money, and the car drives so nice. Quiet, instant torque; great visibility; five passenger seating...all good stuff.
Okay, the looks are an acquired taste - some hate it, some love it. I personally like it, even if it's weird. Honestly, none of the EVs short of the Tesla are beautiful, so it's a wash compared to the others. And even though the Bolt is much faster on paper, you don't notice it on the road...the Clarity pulls hard from a stop, and who really drives these like a sports car? Wrong mission...regardless, there hasn't been one instance where I felt I needed more power in driving the past month.
One issue to note, the infotainment has frozen twice this week and refused to play XM upon starting the car...and it crashed altogether when trying to get Pandora to load one day. If this happens again, I'll likely have to take it in for service. Otherwise, no issues in the first month. + More »
