Neil Posted: 11/7/2010 1:12am PST Nothing is safe as long as people are allowed to use cell phones for any purpose while they drive. John Conrad Posted: 11/7/2010 5:19pm PST These types of statistics do not take into consideration the influence of the drivers who have accidents. Are there similar studies which show whether pickups have disproportionally more drunken drivers? Do SUV drivers tend to wear seat belts less than passenger car drivers? In small towns such as I live in, pickups and SUVs outnumber passenger cars because they are necessary on farms and ranches - they are driven on narrow, winding roads much of the time. Do statistics factor in whether or not pickups are being used for business? A large proportion are. Anyone ejected from a vehicle in an accident and killed should not be counted against the vehicle - not using a seat belt is the cause, not the type of vehicle.
