"Chevy and Ford have dropped the manual completely from the midsize family car class" The 2011 Ford Fusion S or SE with the 2.5L I4 and 6 speed manual, Ford is not out of the midsize manual transmission game.

Maybe in Montana or North Dakota but 94% of us have to deal with traffic, screaming kids, and cups full of coffee :-)

Oh, and if you want to save money on gas in the long run then get auto with your Outback (22/29) as opposed to manual (19/27)
Not sure why but it's been this way for years now even when they had the the 4-speed sitting in there...

I'm not sure how you are defining family cars; but there are new 2010 Saab 9-3s out there with manuals, and a ton of standard features, for around $20k.

Yeah...thank god Ford has not completely eliminated the option on it's best selling sedan, the Ford Fusion. I hate to say that it is a better looking set a wheels next to the Sonata but that falls within the eyes of the beholder.
