    I was in the US when the Joe Isuzu add s were on, they were brilliant and funny, too bad the cars were absolute crap, just shows does matter how good your marketing is, if you are selling drek the public will know!

    Great commercials. The products were sub par for Japanese brands. Ours rusted really bad and the GM supplied V6 was junk.

    Isuzu's failure is a combination of lack of diversifications (see Ssangyong's failure in Korea) - you have to sell cars too... and an unwillingness to fight in a competitive market (no investment in cars - mostly GM based models, no differentiation...). Subaru shows us how focused marketing and product development can make for a competitive niche producer - though they are bound to either become a Toyota division or will be forced to expand their product line.
