I bought an '03 MR2 Spyder as a toy but it has become a daily driver and savior since gas starting going up. I can have fun and still hit 30 MPG. On a recent road trip I was able to squeeze out 35 MPG. I kept my speed between 60-65 mph. I drive around 700 miles per week. My '02 4Runner hardly leaves home anymore.

I have an '08 Miata (MX-5)like in this picture (True Red w/blk top & int). I purposely got the 6sp mt for pure driving enjoyment. I didn't buy the car for mpg or speeding around. I routinely get 29-32 mpg on the recommended premium fuel, by driving it right/skip shifting to keep the rpm's low. Having spent 20+ yrs in the auto industry, testing all types of vehicles (prototype & others), I can honestly say, this car is more fun to drive than anything else I can ever remember, every time I drive it!

Unfortunately, I can only dream about a roadster for another couple of years... I do have a relatively new 15 MPG SUV for personal nad non-family duty but I've been telecommuting from home so much that I don't recall last time I filled up the tank in that thing :)

I don't see why a comfortable roadster like the Miata can't be someone's daily driver. After all, there are a few enthusiasts who take their Lotus Elise out to the office, the grocery store, the mall... :)
