    I truly hope that Audi sees the light and brings us the A5 or at least the A4 with the 3.0TDI and a 6-speed manual transmission (or better yet, DSG). I would be the first guy in line to put my order in if they were to announce that configuration. The US market is ready for change - with $4/gal gas on the horizon, the time is now.

    I'm looking to buy a new vehicle, but am trying to hold out for a TDI in a fullsize sedan/wagon profile. I became impressed with the TDI after vacationing in Portugal last year when I drove a stationwagon TDI and had enormous torque and fantastic MPG's

    Hope I can hold out to buy one here in the USA.

    I won't buy a new car until I can get one with a TDI - and I want a coupe or a convertible, not a sedan or SUV

    Do you hear that Audi/Volvo/BMW/Mercedes, etc?

    The Big 3 sell millions of Diesels in Europe, but had not bothered to bring any to the US for decades. As usual, they were caught with their pants down.. and with no vision.

    And the Diesel is the IDEAL powerplant for an SUV or Pickup Truck especially, it has all the torque it needs to accelerate and TOW 10,000s of lbs, and none of the extra HP it does NOT.

    I agree with all previous posts. All german makers will bring diesels in the US, even BMW, and of course the old reliables, Merc and VW.

    But even HONDA will bring an Accord Diesel, very fuel efficient, that willmake the already stellar Accord an even more Huge sales hit (from 400,000 a year to half a million?)

    People should try to understand that the MODERN Diesel has NOTHING in common with the losers (esp. the GM loser Diesels) of the 80s!!!

    I was driving back from CT to MI last summer in my"magnificent 7" 1998 BMW 740iL (15 city, 22-24 highway actual mpg) and had a much smaller engined Merc Diesel 320 TDI, and I had a hard time keeping up with it. It sure did not slow me down!

    That's all because of the HUMONGOUS Torque. My 7 has 282 HP, 317 lbft torque, I believe, buit the Merc has 202 HP, and 398 or so Lbft!!!

    ANd in addition, the 7 is 4,400 lb while the merc is 4,000.

    and the Diesel merc will get you 32-35 MPG highway! and a 700 mile range!

    If Audi means to hear (in Latin) - Hear us now! Bring over the A4 3.0TDI this year and have it available as an S-Line. If you do, you will own the luxury alternative fuel sector in the United States!!!

    I'm so stoked that Audi's bringing diesels back to the U.S. market. Aside from the obvious implications for energy security and the trade deficit (biodiesel anyone?), 35 mpg and this clean technology will make the world a better place.
