Pros:I bought the vehicle loaded with the nav system, Rockford Fosgate audio, bluetooth, leather interior, and sunroof! So far I love it! It handles great, has lots of power and so far my fuel economy has aver. 29 mpg (most of my driving is hwy). I traded in a Kia Sportage (junk) so this purchase was definitely a step (or 4!) up. Like the Toyota RAV4, the Outlander offers a small third-row seat that will probably go unused most of the time but is nice to have; and like the Honda CR-V, its interior is very spacious. But the Outlander has more spirited performance and sportier handling than the Toyota and Honda, though the ride is firmer and less comfortable on some surfaces. Compared with the Subaru Forester, which also feels sporty, the driver's seat appears lower to the ground in the Forester, and the Subaru's four-cylinder engine certainly comes across as stronger than the standard four in the Outlander, but the Outlander has it beat with its V-6. For a few thousand dollars more, the Mazda CX-7 has seating for only five, but it's perceived as a more complete performance package, with very comfortable seating, sporty suspension tuning, and a rorty turbocharged engine. The Forester and CR-V remain the best for those who are safety-minded; they're both IIHS Top Safety Picks for 2008.
