I love the sound and performance of the big V8. The AWD has been impressive in the snow and on ice. It can still get stuck if the snow is deep enough, and the traction control system is complex. The 2008 Audi S4 range used to be the only compact luxury vehicle with an optional V-8. Then along came the Cadillac CTS-V, which is absent from the market for the 2008 model year, as it's being redesigned. The Mercedes-Benz C63 arrives this year with scorching V-8 power but no available all-wheel drive; ditto the BMW M3, which comes in convertible and coupe editions as well as four-door form. The Lexus IS-F is a new entrant for the 2008 model year; it has 416 horsepower, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and a 0-60-mph time quicker than all of these vehicles. The Jaguar XF is an interesting alternative, without all-wheel drive but with far sexier looks and an innovative cabin to boot.
