I can't give you an answer regarding your car but my 06 does not have this feature and i never got stuck in snow of ice with sensible driving. Same with my 02 so I'm going to guess that in a tricky situation, it's better turned off. If anything, the manual should give you some idea when the feature...

Subaru's hold their value very good so they are great cars to lease. But lease deals change so much that it's best to just hit up your local dealer and see what the best they can offer. Leases are complicated and with the economy the way it is, not many companies are offering leases.
