If you are still under warranty, just take it to the dealer and tell them to fix the problem! You shouldn't have to put up with any quality issues with a car that new. The traction control light had issues on my 2007 Saturn, and the dealer fixed it in a day... most of the time, there are TSBs...

The Saturn Ion has electric power steering attached to the steering column. Sounds like you may have a failure in one of the control computers on the car or perhaps something as simple as a fuse. Have it looked at by a mechanic knowledgeable in Saturns.
