I'm currently looking at '98 4 cylinder Mazda B-series pickup and was just wondering if Mazda makes great trucks in the same vein as Ford and GMC?

Yes, The b-series mazda is a very good truck and i highly recommend it for a great economy truck. I own a 00' b-3000 and it is the best truck i have ever owned. They are, like everyone said, like a ford ranger and since they are made by ford, they are a very good truck. P.S. i recommend the manual...

The GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado are newer trucks that don't offer much better crash-test performance or styling, but their five-cylinder engines are more powerful than the Mazda's big V-6.
Both models also now offer a V-8 for 2009.
The Ford Ranger is a near-identical twin of the 2009 Mazda B-Series, but it offers more trims, an off-road package, and an intermediate 3.0-liter V-6 that used to have E85-burning capability.
