As a general rule of thumb, you get the best terms with a FICO of 725 or better. That would include no down payment and the lowest interest rates. My credit has been 725 or better for 20 years now and I have yet to be required to put down any money on a car, though I usually do just to keep the...

Boasting highway fuel economy of 40 m.p.g., European handling and Ford's global design theme, the Fiesta aims to be Ford's first no-excuses subcompact. The practical and sleek hatchback and more traditional sedan will come with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and Ford's first dual-clutch...

Why should I also consider these? X

The 2011 Ford Fiesta is Ford's attempt to plant a first-rate competitor into a garden dominated by Asian brands.

While the Honda Fit is priced a bit higher than other entries, it remains the car the Fiesta has to beat; the Fit gets good ratings for its sprightly handling, its uber-flexible and spacious interior, and a solid feel behind the wheel.

While the Nissan Versa is priced quite low, it sacrifices features to get there.

It also rides and handles like a larger, heavier car, lacking the nimble handling that's a pleasure of the best subcompacts.

The Hyundai Accent handles well but isn't particularly comfortable at high speeds.

Finally, the Scion xD feels sporty and offers features galore, but lacks the Fiesta's jaunty styling.

Avoid the aging Chevrolet Aveo, which will be replaced next year.
