I have a 2002 escalade esv, and I want to charge my iPhone, do I use the cigarrette thingy?

Try getting a can of compressed air or something similar to clear out the cigarette lighter. If you have an iPod charger that works with the cigarette lighter, the cigarette lighter works properly, and the area is clear of debris, then you can safely plug it in.
