Has a 1998 bmw 7 series got a timing belt that needs changing or is it a metal belt?

It is a metal chain. I think the life expectancy is around 250k miles or higher. There are a lot of high mileage BMWs that have never had the chain replaced, I'd recommend doing it around 250k though (I like catching the problem before it gets bigger.
