Roadside Assistance: 3 Best Options

AAA Roadside Assistance

Confused about all the roadside assistance programs out there? With literally dozens to choose from, the decision-making process can get complicated. When it comes to roadside assistance, here are 3 best options.

AAA

The 24-hour multiservice AAA roadside assistance program offers peace of mind when you’re on the road and is available in three packages: Basic, Plus and Premier. Packages range in price from $52 to $141 for the primary member, and $22 to $49 per extra person (associate membership).

Basic includes towing up to three miles, battery boost, and spare tire installation, and fuel delivery, locksmith reimbursement up to $50, travel accident insurance, and free maps.

With Plus and Premier you get more features, such as additional free mileage on towing, higher reimbursement amounts, free one-day car rentals, free fuel on delivery, home lockout reimbursement, and travel concierge.

OnStar

After combing through the various roadside assistance programs provided by all the automakers, the high-tech and comprehensive OnStar program stands head and shoulders above the rest. It also comes standard on most new GM vehicles for several years/miles (which may vary by vehicle). Roadside assistance is only one of the many services included. in OnStar Safe & Sound plan. Other services include automatic crash response, emergency services, hands-free calling, remote link mobile app, stolen vehicle assistance, remote services and vehicle diagnostics. Upgrade to the Directions & Connections plan and Turn-by-Turn Navigation is also included.

After the free period ends, the OnStar service can be renewed annually. The Safe & Sound plan costs 19.95/month or $199/year. The OnStar Directions & Connections plan is $29.90/month or $299/year.

There is also OnStar FMV (for my vehicle) for $18.95/month which consumers can buy and install on their car that doesn’t come with a factory-installed safety and security-type system (that also includes roadside assistance).

Mercedes-Benz

Luxury car buyers expect extra services, and that extends to roadside assistance. With Mercedes-Benz, there’s no worry that you’ll run past your warranty and not be covered for a tow, flat tire, lockout or other services. Mercedes-Benz provides roadside assistance for the life of the vehicle, 24 hours a day, whether you need a tow (to an authorized dealer), trip routing or other services. It doesn’t get any better than that.

The best part is that the services are included in the price of the car – no additional charges.
