How much would it cost to convert my car to Electric?

Yo Ma asked:
How much would it cost to convert my car to Electric?
I have a 2004 Mazda RX8 and I like the look but I am sick of the automatic transmission. I thought it might be a fun project to convert it to pure electric seeing as I don't really need the backseats nor the trunk. What am I looking at in terms of cost for a practical commute range (50 miles/day)?

Really it is hard to say. You can pick up an electric conversion kit for any where from $3,000 to $10,000, but then you have to pay someone to install it. Plus, you need to have a charging station installed. The fuel savings could more than pay for the conversion and the solar charger, if the batteries and circuitry hold up.
