December 7, 2010Jim Connor asked:
Should I buy the new Accent now or save up some money for a Ford Fiesta?
Answered By Justin Cupler, Contributing Writer:
It pains me to say it, but I would recommend the Accent. The first reason is that the two are nearly identical mechanically. You can pick up a GS trim level Accent for about $1,000 less than a base-model Fiesta. The GS Accent has more usable standard features than the Fiesta (i.e. CD player and rear wiper). Plus the Accent has the same 1.6-liter world engine that it has used since the early-2000s, the Fiesta is using a brand new engine and drive train. We all saw how long it took the Focus to rid itself of simple problems when it was first released.
Another thing in Hyundai's favor is their 100,000-mile powertrain warranty, compared to Ford's 60,000-mile warranty.
Lastly, Hyundai has really focused on producing quality cars over the last decade. The last real problems they have had ended in the late 20th century.
