1990 BMW: No Code

Q--I was hit from the rear in our 1990 BMW and the rear lights and bumper were knocked off. Since the accident, I have to re-enter the radio code each time the ignition is turned off. Our tachometer, computer gauges, clock, and interior lights no longer work.

Could this have been caused by the accident or by the collision shop?

A--Since a bunch of things no longer work, I suspect a blown fuse or fusible link or a broken wire somewhere. Repairing that circuit may also restore the keep-alive power to your radio’s security feature. Yes, this is probably a result of the collision, but I don’t know where to lay the blame. Contact your insurance company and let them know the repairs are not satisfactory.
