Q--When my husband drives his 1998 Olds Bravada and tries to turn to park (into a parking space) or make a circular turn, the vehicle shutters as if the wheels are hitting the wheel-wells (and makes a chugging sound). This is avoided if he makes three-point turns, though this is not always practical. He initially thought it was the ball joints, though these have been replaced. Is there something else that is causing this and will it be expensive to repair?
A--The behavior you describe is called “crow hopping.” If the truck in four-wheel drive, the wheels cannot make tight turns without skipping, or hopping, especially when moving slow such as when parking. If you cannot take it out of 4WD, there may be problem with the system that requires professional attention.
