Q--I purchased a 1999 Kia Sportage, with a four-speed automatic, and use it as a mail-delivery car. It gets 15 mpg. It gets 19 mpg according to Kia. I know it may be a moot point because I deliver mail, but I was hoping for 20 mpg when I retired my 1995 Grand Prix (still have it in the yard — it’s using more oil). Can you think of anything I can do to attain my 20-mpg goal? Perhaps other mail carriers might be interested. This car goes places I never dreamed possible in the wintertime backcountry of
A--Let me get this straight, the car is rated at 19 mpg but you want to get 20. You drive it stop-and-go probably 90 percent of the time and this is a killer to your fuel economy, yet you expect to get 20 mpg. The only way I can think of to improve your gas mileage is to hitch a mule team to the front bumper.
