Within this group, only the Buick Lucerne offers V-8 power.

However, the V-6 engines in these competitors nearly match the Northstar V-8, and the Ford and Mercury full-size sedans hook their V-6 to a six-speed automatic for added fuel savings.

Additionally, the Ford and Mercury offer the security of available all-wheel drive.

The Hyundai Azera is a surprisingly strong alternative to the big Buick and the Toyota Avalon, which also offers front-wheel drive and a large, powerful V-6.
