Adaptive cruise control with Stop/Go capability, night vision with pedestrian detection, and full LED headlights are just some of the trick features available on the A6.
Inside Line

The 2013 A6 and S6 family of sedans build on Audi's strong safety reputation, with a long list of active-safety options that will give peace of mind dangerphobes--as well as some excellent test results.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) called the A6 a Top Safety Pick this past year, with top 'good' ratings from the organization in frontal, side, and rear impact tests, as well as in the roof strength test.

The A6 offers all the active-safety features you'll find on its luxury peers from Mercedes-Benz and BMW--including front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, blind-spot monitors, a night-vision system, and a head-up display.

Audi's presense system tenses seatbelts and prepares the car when it detects an imminent collision. Couple that with the A6's available adaptive cruise control, and the A6 can completely slow down and accelerate when it senses obstacles changing speeds in the lane ahead.

Every A6 has standard front, side and curtain airbags. Anti-lock brakes are standard, as well as traction and stability control. A Bluetooth hands-free interface is standard.

We'd also, in a some cases, figure Audi's quattro all-wheel-drive system as safety-related; it's not available on four-cylinder A6 sedans, but it's standard on six-cylinder cars.

We've found outward visibility to be excellent to the front, and better than other cars of this type thanks to the rather low beltline and large glass areas--although the stubby decklid still makes the rearview camera system useful.

Conclusion

Excellent crash-test results plus some standout active-safety features make the A6 family a safe, secure pick.

How does the
TCC Rating work?
The TCC Rating is a clear numeric rating value based on a 10-point scale that reflects the overall opinion of our automotive experts on any vehicle and rolls up ratings we give each vehicle across sub-categories you care about like performance, safety, styling and more.

Our rating also has simple color-coded “Stop” (red), “Caution” (orange),
or “Go” (green) messages along with the numerical score so you can easily understand where we stand at a glance.

Our automotive experts then also collect and show you what other websites say about these different aspects of any vehicle. We do this leg work for you to simplify your research process.
