2012 Ford Mustang V-6: 19/31 mpg (auto), 19/29 mpg (manual)
2012 Ford Mustang V-8: 18/25 mpg (auto), 17/26 mpg (manual)
2012 Ford Mustang V-8 (Shelby): 15/23 mpg
The Mustang was hardly known as a fuel-efficient model in the past; but with the introduction of two all-new engines a couple of years ago, it could now be one of the more fuel-efficient performance car picks—especially if you go with the V-6.
In V-6 versions, the Mustang achieves up to 31 mpg highway, according to the EPA. Even 420-horsepower V-8 models aren't the gas guzzlers you might think; they earn up to 26 mpg highway.Just don't expect the super-performance Shelby GT500 versions to sip fuel quite as carefully; 2013 EPA numbers hadn't yet been posted at the time of posting, though for 2012 they were rated at 15/23 mpg.
The Mustang V-6 will eke out a miserly 31 miles per gallon—if you can be gentle with your right foot.
