…when it comes to safety, all Sorentos are created equal…

…a commanding view of the road ahead.

Outward visibility is reasonably good despite a thick D-pillar.
Inside Line

No matter which Sorento you choose, you'll be assured of good crash-safety performance.

Each 2012 Sorento comes with dual front, side, and curtain airbags; anti-lock brakes, traction and stability control; and active headrests.

Those basics aren't helped along by some of the more exotic safety technology on the market today, but nonetheless, the Sorento's a strong performer in crash testing. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) gives the Kia four stars overall--with five-star side-impact protection and four stars each for frontal impacts and rollover protection. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety calls the Sorento a Top Safety Pick.

Visibility is fine, even with the Sorento's substantial rear roof pillars. A rearview camera is offered on high-end versions, but it's packaged with an expensive navigation system

Conclusion

The Sorento earns good scores from the two major crash-test agencies; we wish the optional rearview camera were a stand-alone option.

How does the
TCC Rating work?
The TCC Rating is a clear numeric rating value based on a 10-point scale that reflects the overall opinion of our automotive experts on any vehicle and rolls up ratings we give each vehicle across sub-categories you care about like performance, safety, styling and more.

Our rating also has simple color-coded “Stop” (red), “Caution” (orange),
or “Go” (green) messages along with the numerical score so you can easily understand where we stand at a glance.

Our automotive experts then also collect and show you what other websites say about these different aspects of any vehicle. We do this leg work for you to simplify your research process.
