Safety's a major credit to the 2010 GL-Class. Though it hasn't been tested by the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), nor by the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety), it includes a raft of equipment that gives drivers confidence in preventing and surviving accidents.

Standard safety features on all GL-Class utes include dual front, front- and rear-seat-mounted side, driver-knee and full-length curtain airbags; anti-lock brakes; stability and traction control; active headrests; and PRE-SAFE, which detects imminent collisions and tightens seatbelts and locks doors before impact.

Adaptive cruise control, parking sensors, and a rearview camera are optional on the base trim levels, and standard on the GL550.

More Opinions:
Cars.com: standard "active head restraints, all-disc anti-lock brakes, traction control and an electronic stability system"
Edmunds: "Hill start assist, hill descent control and TeleAid are also included"

Conclusion

The 2010 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class earns a strongsafety score for its long list of safety equipment, though no official crash test scores are available.
