Safety is another strong suit of the current Malibu. Anti-lock disc brakes, stability and traction control, front side airbags, and side curtain airbags are all included as standard features. The suite of OnStar emergency telematics services (subscription required) is also standard and was last year upgraded to version 9.0, which now includes six months of Directions and Connections service plus standard Turn-by-Turn navigation.

Crash-test ratings have been excellent overall. The 2012 Malibu carries over its top 'good' ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in every category, including frontal offset, side, and seat-based rear impact tests, along with the new roof strength (rollover) test; and it's earned the IIHS Top Safety Pick accolade for 2012. In the stricter federal tests that were phased in last year, the Malibu gets a combination of four- and five-star ratings.

Conclusion

The 2012 Chevrolet Malibu is strong in safety, and one of the better picks for security-conscious families.

How does the
TCC Rating work?
The TCC Rating is a clear numeric rating value based on a 10-point scale that reflects the overall opinion of our automotive experts on any vehicle and rolls up ratings we give each vehicle across sub-categories you care about like performance, safety, styling and more.

Our rating also has simple color-coded “Stop” (red), “Caution” (orange),
or “Go” (green) messages along with the numerical score so you can easily understand where we stand at a glance.

Our automotive experts then also collect and show you what other websites say about these different aspects of any vehicle. We do this leg work for you to simplify your research process.
