How does the
TCC Rating work?
The TCC Rating is a clear numeric rating value based on a 10-point scale that reflects the overall opinion of our automotive experts on any vehicle and rolls up ratings we give each vehicle across sub-categories you care about like performance, safety, styling and more.

Our rating also has simple color-coded “Stop” (red), “Caution” (orange),
or “Go” (green) messages along with the numerical score so you can easily understand where we stand at a glance.

Our automotive experts then also collect and show you what other websites say about these different aspects of any vehicle. We do this leg work for you to simplify your research process.

Expert Quotes:

14/19 mpg city/highway for the ZL1; 15/24 mpg for the SS; up to 19/30 mpg with the V-6.
EPA

While the high-output V-8 SS and ZL1 models aren't going to win any awards for saving the planet (despite being efficient for their power ratings) the V-6 model does very respectably given the Camaro's sporty nature.

The V-6 models, when equipped with the six-speed automatic transmission, rate as high as 19 mpg city and 30 mpg highway, for instance. The V-8 SS scores just 15-16 mpg city and 24 mpg highway, depending on the transmission chosen.

The ZL1's prodigious 580-horsepower output predetermines a fairly low gas mileage score, and the EPA's 14/19-mpg estimate reflects that.

Conclusion

Despite strong highway gas mileage, the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro's high-power, sports coupe nature limits its around-town efficiency.
