Expert Quotes:

'Good,' frontal offset; 'acceptable,' side impact; 'acceptable,' rear impact
IIHS

Four stars overall (Crew Cab); five stars overall (Extended Cab and Regular Cab); four stars (frontal); five stars (side)
NHTSA

The 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and Hybrid have a good set of safety features, but crash-test results have been mixed. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) has rated the Silverado 'good' for frontal offset but only 'acceptable' for side and rear impact, and it hasn't yet tested the truck for roof strength. Outcomes from the federal government have been better, with four- or five-star overall ratings, depending on the cab style (Crew Cab models do best), and five-star side impact ratings on all models.

Side and side curtain airbags are standard on all Silverado 1500 models, whileanti-lock brakes, stability and traction control, OnStar, and tire pressure monitors are all included. A rearview camera is available, as are power-adjustable pedals.

Conclusion

The 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and Hybrid are respectable, though not excellent, for safety.

How does the
TCC Rating work?
The TCC Rating is a clear numeric rating value based on a 10-point scale that reflects the overall opinion of our automotive experts on any vehicle and rolls up ratings we give each vehicle across sub-categories you care about like performance, safety, styling and more.

Our rating also has simple color-coded “Stop” (red), “Caution” (orange),
or “Go” (green) messages along with the numerical score so you can easily understand where we stand at a glance.

Our automotive experts then also collect and show you what other websites say about these different aspects of any vehicle. We do this leg work for you to simplify your research process.
