Expert Quotes:

18 mpg city, 28 highway (sDrive30i); 19/26 (sDrive35i, manual); 17/24 (sDrive35i and sDrive35is, DCT)
U.S. EPA

Despite the power increase, the 35is is no thirstier for premium fuel than the regular 35i with DCT
Motor Trend

With EPA fuel economy ratings as good as 19 mpg in the city and 28 on the highway, the 2011 BMW Z4 lineup is actually quite green—for a sports car, that is.

You'll see pretty good mileage—low 20s, likely, in combined driving—with either engine. Curiously, the turbocharged engine actually gets slightly better mileage, with the manual gearbox, than the naturally aspirated engine.

Those who value fuel economy in a sports car might want to wait until the 2012 model year, when a new base turbocharged four-cylinder engine is expected to offer improved fuel economy.

Conclusion

Relative to most other sports cars, the 2011 BMW Z4 is a pretty green choice.

How does the
TCC Rating work?
The TCC Rating is a clear numeric rating value based on a 10-point scale that reflects the overall opinion of our automotive experts on any vehicle and rolls up ratings we give each vehicle across sub-categories you care about like performance, safety, styling and more.

Our rating also has simple color-coded “Stop” (red), “Caution” (orange),
or “Go” (green) messages along with the numerical score so you can easily understand where we stand at a glance.

Our automotive experts then also collect and show you what other websites say about these different aspects of any vehicle. We do this leg work for you to simplify your research process.
