Its styling is still a matter of taste—interior and exterior.

Classic analog gauges, sensible ergonomics and a restrained overall aesthetic combine to create a pleasant driving environment, though there's less visual pizzazz here than in some rivals.

The 335i nails the folding-hardtop mission too. The power top moves quickly, and when it's folded you'd hardly know where it's gone. The rear deck is low and rakish, despite all that hidden metal (more magic). The Lexus [IS 350C] looks positively frumpy in comparison.

New exterior features include horizontal chrome blades, LED lighting in the front and the rear, a lifted back end, new bumpers, and new rocker panels and sideview mirrors.

Whether you choose coupe, sedan, wagon, or convertible, the 2011 BWM 3-Series is handsome, graceful, and athletic. The athletic and graceful character stands out most in the coupe and convertible, while the sedan and wagon convey a sense of purposeful, handsome solidity. Updates for 2011 are subtle, with small changes to the front and rear ends adding up to a fresh look.

Interior styling is likewise attractive, with stalwart and elegant lines making for a luxurious feel without being over the top. That tendency toward conservativeness may not inspire love in all buyers, however.

Nevertheless, the styling doesn't get in the way of functionality, which anyone can appreciate, though some find the location of the audio and climate controls a bit awkward.

Conclusion

Attractive and elegant, the 2011 BMW 3-Series' styling is a good compromise between bling and boring.
