The 2008 Pontiac G6 Coupe offers respectable crash test ratings and a class-appropriate list of safety features. Reviews read by TheCarConnection.com show that there is a lot to love about the G6 Pontiac Coupe's safety credentials.
In crash tests performed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the 2008 Pontiac G6 scored quite well. After subjecting the two-door G6 Pontiac Coupe to its full battery of crash tests, the NHTSA awarded it five stars for front driver, side driver, and side passenger impacts, along with four out of five stars for front passenger impacts. While these ratings are all commendable, the IIHS shows a bit of a disparity. In IIHS tests, Edmunds writes that the 2008 Pontiac G6 Coupe "received a top score of 'Good' for frontal-offset impact protection." However, while the NHTSA gives this 2008 Pontiac perfect ratings for side impacts, the IIHS deems the G6 Pontiac Coupe worthy of only an Acceptable rating in side impacts.
Aside from the above-average crash-test ratings, the 2008 Pontiac G6 employs a pretty typical list of safety features to help keep occupants safe. Cars.com writes "all-disc antilock brakes and traction control are now standard on all models," along with standard "side curtain and side-impact airbags." J.D. Power adds that the G6 Coupe also includes "GM's StabiliTrak dynamic control system" and "PASSLOCK theft-deterrent system" as standard features.
One feature on this 2008 Pontiac that hurts its safety rating is the poor visibility. ConsumerGuide testers report "vision astern is blocked by tall headrests" and "to the sides and front corners by thick roof pillars."
Conclusion
The 2008 Pontiac G6 Coupe has great crash-test scores and a complete set of standard safety features.
