In the 2008 Pontiac G6 Coupe, interior fit and finish and materials drag down its score for comfort and quality.

The 2008 Pontiac G6 Coupe has, according to Cars.com, "seating for four," with those up front enjoying somewhat more room. Starting in the rear seats, Edmunds reviewers find that the G6 Pontiac has "plenty of room provided by the car's long wheelbase, which results in generous rear-seat accommodations." ConsumerGuide adds that there is "ample legroom...even with the front seats well back," although the "sloping roofline limits headroom for those over 5-ft-10." Motor Trend testers deliver harsher words for the front seats on this 2008 Pontiac, as their performance-oriented mentality leads them to deride the "little embrace" that the G6 Pontiac Coupe's seats provide, which all but "disappears while cornering." For the more practical drivers among us, ConsumerGuide finds that the front offers "good headroom and legroom," though the seats are "short on long-distance support."

When it comes to daily practicality, storage space is one of the most important elements. Here, Cars.com writes that the 2008 Pontiac G6 Coupe presents "12...cubic feet" of cargo space in the trunk. ConsumerGuide finds that the trunk "has a small opening and tall liftover, but its hinges don't intrude on cargo space," and the overall storage room can be expanded thanks to "rear seatbacks that fold almost flat and have hard plastic backs." Inside the cabin, ConsumerGuide writes "interior storage is just OK."

One aspect of the interior that is mentioned much more than storage space in reviews read by TheCarConnection.com is the G6 Pontiac's poor interior quality. ConsumerGuide reviewers say that "the cabin has an abundance of hard plastic surfaces, with overall material quality that significantly trails those of most midsize rivals." Kelley Blue Book adds that the interior plastics "have a heavy, hard feel," while Edmunds characterizes the materials as "a notch or two below class standards." This 2008 Pontiac finds a small measure of redemption when it comes to interior noise, as Motor Trend reviewers notice "only a bit of wind buffeting" at 80 mph, and "in sixth gear, the cabin becomes exceptionally quiet."

Conclusion

Although it offers decent space for occupants, the 2008 Pontiac G6 Coupe has a lower grade of materials than do its class leaders.

Why should I also consider these? X

The new Chevrolet Malibu--also from GM--has a more contemporary and comfortable interior, along with improved powertrain refinement, while not costing much more than the G6.

Otherwise, the 2008 Pontiac G6 doesn't compete with the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry, so much as it does against the Ford Fusion and Nissan Altima.

Next to the G6, the Fusion feels sportier, with its crisp, direct steering and responsive engines, but the G6 has a more spacious backseat than either the Fusion or Altima.

The Altima stands out for its simple but very tasteful interior design and nice materials.

The Avenger could also be considered an alternative to the G6; the Dodge has a reasonably roomy interior, but its base four-cylinder engine is especially loud and coarse, and its interior appointments have a bargain-basement feel.
