“a Camry hybrid with sex appeal”
Los Angeles Times

Reviews read by TheCarConnection.com were impressed with the 2008 Nissan Altima Hybrid’s style.

The Los Angeles Times thinks the 2008 Nissan Altima Hybrid “might be thought of as a Camry hybrid with sex appeal.” Since its 2007 restyling, Nissan tweaked the shape in a very minor way, “an effort that has merely refined the car's well-loved, cleanly architectural styling: the perfect-arch roofline, the raked windshield, the close-fitting wheel openings and glassine details at the corners.” Cars.com agrees: “You get a ton of style with the new Altima. Those taillights are pretty amazing.”

Cars.com notes that the 2008 Nissan Altima Hybrid is virtually identical to the standard Altima; Nissan outfits both models with "a notched grille, swanky taillight capsules and dual exhaust." Motor Trend observes, “’Hybrid’ badging aside, this tech-rich Altima is a visual clone.”

The 2008 Nissan Altima Hybrid’s interior gets compliments, too. “It's much nicer and more grown-up,” Edmunds says, “though still not quite up to world-class standards.”

When comparing the 2008 Nissan Altima Hybrid to other hybrids, reviewers enjoy the sportier look. Autoblog agrees: "Of the hybrids available on the market today, the Altima Hybrid would be the one sitting in our green garage."

Conclusion

The 2008 Nissan Altima Hybrid looks like a regular-model Altima, and that's a good thing.

Why should I also consider these? X

The Altima's closest competition in this broad field of popular mid-size sedans comes from the Fusion, which also feels very sporty.

That additional driving sensation sets the Altima apart from the Accord, Camry, and Malibu, which all seem a bit heavier yet roomier in back.

With either of the engines, the Altima comes across as decidedly sportier than much of the competition--especially the Camry.

The Passat has a different, more European character, and its peppy four-cylinder engine performs best, but it requires premium fuel.

For safety, the Accord stands on top (it's an IIHS Top Safety Pick); also to the Altima's detriment, electronic stability control is still not offered on the four-cylinder model.

With some road noise entering the cabin, the Altima isn't noisier inside than most cars, except the Fusion.
