Mitsubishi’s Eclipse coupe and Spyder convertibles get modest tweaks for the 2009 model year. Both cars make their debut at the 2008 Chicago auto show.

The Eclipses get some cosmetic refinement for the new model year, including a large blackout grille opening similar to the one on the nose of the Lancer Evolution.

Two coupe models return for the 2009 model year. The GS continues with a 162-hp, 2.4-liter four-cylinder that’s teamed with a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual gearbox, standard anti-lock brakes and side curtain airbags.

The GT models get a slightly more powerful V-6 engine. The 3.8-liter six now makes 265 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, teamed with either a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission. This year, the GT also gets standard stability control, high intensity discharge headlamps, and dual exhausts.

This year’s Eclipse Spyder offers up a 650-watt Rockford Fosgate audio system with six months of Sirius satellite radio.
