2009 Volkswagen Rabbit?
I was thinking about a cooper S but I've read good reviews on the new rabbits or golfs or whatever they're called now and they start at 15k which isn't bad at all. I heard their handling is much better than other compacts in their price range and the detail (both exterior and interior) is superior too. And it comes in stick :) Any input?

Wabbit #1. I looked at the Civic, Corolla and Mazda 3. None are as fun to drive as the Wabbit. Had mine 4 weeks and have 1200 miles on it. I am sure some others get better mileage but I get 22-26 depending wihat I am doing.

Question about regular maintenance costs of a 2008/2009 Volkswagen Rabbit/Golf?
I am considering buying a 2008-2009 VW Rabbit/Golf. I am wondering what the regular maintenance costs (oil changes, breaks, normal wear & tear stuff) would be in comparison to a Honda or a Toyota? If it is more, how much more? If anyone has owned either or all of the above car brands, I would like to hear your experience. Any other info about the...

Honda and Toyota are really the benchmarks for reliability and ease of maintenance. Any other car is going to be less reliable. This is what the data says, its not just opinion. Now that doesn't mean that VW's aren't good cars. Just don't expect them to be just like a Honda...

In looking at rivals, it depends on your shopping priorities.

If fuel economy is a concern, the Rabbit is trumped by nearly every other subcompact or compact on the list.

However, for safety features, standard features, or refinement, the Rabbit does well.

The 2009 Toyota Corolla is especially attractive in its top trim level but feels stark in its base trim.

Domestically, the all-new 2009 Ford Focus matches the Rabbit with coupe and sedan body styles, and buyers tend to be attracted to its powerful SYNC entertainment system.

The Mazda3 is the perennial favorite for handling, but it can't match the VW's solid feel, even after a full redesign this year that thoroughly upgrades the interior.

The Honda Civic offers more engine choices than the Rabbit, especially if you're leaning toward the green hybrid or natural gas powertrains, and it has a light, nimble driving demeanor that the Rabbit lacks.
