I have a 2001 golf, i dont think you can open it from the inside! have a look in your handbook it should say but I dont think you can, guess you will have to have a new cylinder fitted, which im sure will cost you!

MK4 GOLF 1.6s 1999 MODEL
Does any one or has anyone owned a mk4 golf with a 1.6s engine, if so what kind of economy do you get, i get around 110 miles for 20 litres, which i think is low? how about you guys?

That's just short of 25mpg. You may have a problem with the car, but I'm afraid it's much more likely to be your driving style that's at fault unless you're doing very short journeys. It should average 35mpg with normal driving.
