1998 GOLF GTI 2.0ltr?
i've recently swappped my pug 306 for a golf, gutted now thou as my gearbox has gone got hole init and leaked oil out of it, I can get a secondhand gear box for 50, what price should I be paying labour roughly on replacing it for me ???

Around 120 including new gearbox oil at an independent garage. Would be wise to change the clutch as well for about another 120 inc parts.

1998 Volkswagen Golf. 1.8ltr non turbo, 83K. Anyone hear of any common reasons for bad fuel mileage? Only18MPG
Besides the obvious tune up reasons. I'm looking for some idea's as to common trend type issues that others have come across. Any sensors that commonly go bad alot for these types of cars at that mileage? Thanks.

Fuel Filter is probably one of the main causes. My '96 Jetta was a 5-speed and got over 30mpg.

Where is the radio fuse on a 1998 VW Golf?
I know where the fuses are and I have the little card that has all the symbols on it, but I don't have a legend that tells me which one is for the radio! My radio wont turn on, so I am hoping that the fuse isn't inside the radio itself! Thanks!

In the drivers footwell there should be a panel with 2 green buttons, push the buttons in and the panel should be able to be removed. You will see the fuses under this panel and on the reverse of the panel you just removed there will be a diagram of all the fuses and which fuse is which...

Golf 1.4 Petrol, 1998, 68,000?
My car is using a lot of oil and has started to cut out when moving slow on hot days, after re starting the car blue / white smoke appears, oil needs changing like every 2 to 3 weeks, The temp never moves from 90
