L is first gear for very low speeds 2 it 2nd gear. When selected both of these lock the transmission in one gear and prevent it from shifting. Most people never need these selections unless you are going up a steep hill and you transmission keep shifting. Reference:20 years driving cars.

What is causing an issue with my 2001 Toyota RAV4 headlights?
The parking lights, fog lights, and high beams all work, but the low beams don't. I checked fuses, seemed fine. I replaced the bulbs, but the issue remains. What else should I be looking for? Thanks! Josh I tried wiggling, but the lights never came on. I was able to bring it to my mechanic today. Was surprised to hear from them that it is an issue...
